All skill levels welcome, especially total beginners! You get personalized instruction and a supportive environment no matter where you are in your art journey. As a lifelong creative and a trained, experienced art educator, I have experimented with many media and projects - plus I have the technology experience with teaching online. (and adapting when it glitches!)

Let me know how I can help you with your art!

Supplies

Drawing, watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting can all be done virtually. Obviously, you'll need to provide your own supplies. You'll also need an electronic device with a camera to show your work.

Technology

I use Zoom or Google Meet, both of which are free for you to use. I use a high-quality document camera so you can see demos and examples clearly from my end. All you need to do is be able to work a device with a camera on your end. You can prop it up on books or get a mini tripod to show your workspace.

For feedback throughout the week between our coaching calls, you can email or text photos of your work. I typically respond within a few hours at most, between 7am-8pm HST, Monday through Saturday.

Sibling Discount

A sibling discount is available for families. Simply add two or more lessons to your cart and 15% will automatically be taken off at checkout. Each student will need his or her own device so I can observe them working and give personalized feedback.

ALL siblings must be 9 and up. I teach art in a way that is developmentally appropriate for older students. Younger students will likely get confused and frustrated by the lesson.

Digital Learning with Kids

Digital learning may not be appropriate for younger kids who cannot sit still for very long. I recommend shorter Zooms (30-40 min) for upper elementary, some middle school, and kids with possible ADHD.

I take child internet safety seriously, which is why you notice I don't have pictures of children's faces on my website. I encourage parents to be active and involved in their child's digital art class.

I also want you to know that I'm not interested in pushing my personal opinion or beliefs on students. I find this highly unprofessional and inappropriate, and is part of the reason why I don't teach in a public school. I strongly believe children should be learning critical thinking skills and facts, not absorbing the opinions of their teachers. While students are welcome to create art based around their own ideas and beliefs, I take a neutral approach and only comment on technical skills and art concepts.

Parents, you are welcome and encouraged to sit in the same room with your children to provide guidance and supervision as necessary. (Especially if you know they get fidgety during digital learning and can remind them to stand up and take a wiggle/stretch break.)

To encourage a good art-making experience, I encourage you to let go of any Pinterest-worthy expectations for your child's art projects. Instead, ask them to tell you about it after class, tell them about the improvements you see compared to their past work, and generally be encouraging.

Right to Refuse Service

I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone being a creep. Full stop. I will end the call and you won't be refunded for anything.
