Studio Tour
Here it is: Quite possibly the most colorful garage you have seen! As you hopefully read by now, my art studio is in my garage. I realize that sounds weird if you just moved to Hawai'i, but you'll know soon enough....Space is at a premium here, and we make use with what we've got! So I sacrificed keeping a car in here and took it over with art stuff! (Believe it or not, I can fit a car in here in the event of a hurricane!
I leave the big garage door open during lessons, unless it starts pouring rain and blowing inside, or if my neighbors' mowers are nearby. Students should be mature enough not to run out into the shared driveway. They will also need to refrain from messing around with things behind the aloha fabric curtains. These areas are "kapu." ("forbidden, off-limits")
The cleanup spot is a washtub that is just out of view in the pictures, but where I can keep an eye students while they wash up. There is also a jug of water back there if they forgot their water bottle. Just ask!
Here is the big supply cart! There is also a small one by the table with our main supplies of the day.
The bathroom is up two steps through the white door and immediately on the right. It's just my kitchen beyond that, but students shouldn't be venturing beyond the bathroom. I leave the white door propped open to make sure they come right back outside when they're done.
I have a sweet doggy who may come to sniff who is in her house if you do need to go inside to use the bathroom. She's usually napping, but if she is awake, she'll probably scam you into petting her very soft ears. Please let me know in advance if you or your student is terrified of dogs and I will make sure she doesn't come near you.
My two boys are also inside, or you may see them come and go to their own activities or friends' houses.
There are a few fans around to keep us cool and blow away the occasional insects. (No AC)Â There will be 1-2 tables set up with benches. Other seating acccommodations can be made.
Here is the teacher side of the room! This is where I make my art and store it between art shows. There is always different art displayed around the room, depending on what I'm working on, framing, or printing.
I love books! Some of these art-related books can be borrowed by mature students for a few weeks. I have a checkout list to mark them down. Please just return it when you're done.
My working area. Students don't need to be in this "kapu" area, but they are welcome to ask questions if they see something that piques their interest!
