Build a solid foundation by learning the crucial techniques needed to draw and shade anything.

Drawing is the basis for all visual art. In these private lessons, students learn the logical concepts required to sketch and shade subjects accurately from real life or reference photos. Rebecca’s matter-of-fact teaching style helps students look at the world like a scientist to draw what they actually see.

What’s Included in Your Experience

• Personalized Skill Assessment: The first lesson includes an assessment of the student’s current skills. From there, we tailor subsequent lessons to focus on specific areas of interest and growth.
• Media Exploration: All supplies are included! Students will work with a wide range of drawing materials, including graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, chalk pastels, and ink.
• Observational Focus: We focus on realistic drawing from observation (objects, humans, animals, and landscapes from real life and photos). While Rebecca does not teach anime or cartooning, the skills learned here can be applied to any style.
• Progressive Learning: As students advance through their 4, 8, or 12-lesson series, they tackle more complex subjects with increasing independence. We recommend at least 8 lessons for those new to formal drawing lessons.

Booking Details

• Ages: Adults or kids/teens ages 9–17.
• Timeframe: 1.5 hours per lesson.
  
• Frequency: Lessons are typically held once per week or once every other week.
• Series Options: Packages of 4, 8, or 12 lessons are available. 
• Location: My home studio in Waipahu (mauka from Lowe’s off H1/Exit 7). The exact address is emailed after registration. (Please check your spam folder.)
• Studio Readiness: Students are expected to use materials responsibly and follow studio safety rules. Please review our full policies here and read the blog post "How do I know my kid is ready for art class?"

Investment

• Pricing: Select your lesson bundle from the drop-down menu.
• Supplies: All supplies are included for use in the studio. To see the best results, students are highly encouraged to have a sketchbook and graphite pencils for practice at home. (See recommended supplies)
• Sibling/Friend Discount: Receive 15% off when registering 2 or more students together! (Ages 9+ and adults) The discount applies automatically at checkout.

How to Schedule Your Lessons

1. Confirm Availability: Before purchasing, please check the calendar page for mutual availability. Lessons are 1.5 hours. (Lessons are typically held weekdays after 1pm and select Saturday afternoons.)
2. Purchase Your Bundle: Once you've confirmed a time slot that works for you, return to this page to purchase your 4, 8, or 12-lesson package.
3. Finalize Details: You will receive a confirmation email with a link to my calendar app to officially lock in your dates, or you may email/call to schedule them. Please check your spam folder for "Rebecca Block" if you do not see a message within a few minutes.
