Master the traditional medium of oil painting using safe, solvent-free techniques.
Oil painting is often viewed as intimidating or toxic, but it is actually a logical and rewarding medium when approached with the right methods. In these private lessons, we focus on technical skill and color theory to help you translate real-life subjects onto canvas. Rebecca provides step-by-step guidance, demonstrating concepts alongside you to ensure a clear understanding of the "hows and whys" of oil paint.
What’s Included in Your Experience
- Solvent-Free Studio: We prioritize the safety of our students and our island by using non-toxic thinning and cleaning methods. We use M. Graham oils (walnut oil-based) and natural seed oils for thinning. No turpentine or mineral spirits are used in the studio.
- Color Mixing & Value: Learn a logical system for mixing colors that keeps your palette clean. We focus on value levels and saturation to help you create depth and satisfying focal points.
- Long-Term Projects: Students work on a project of their choice at their own pace. Whether you finish one detailed piece or multiple studies, the focus remains on personal growth and craftsmanship.
- Personalized Coaching: Rebecca provides direct feedback on your work, helping you apply the elements of art and principles of design to achieve the specific results you want.

Studio Safety & Policies
All students are expected to use materials responsibly, follow strict cleanup procedures, and maintain a safe studio environment. Because solvent-free oil cleaning is time-intensive and requires meticulous attention to detail, we do not make exceptions for younger or immature students. Please read our full policies here.
