Learn the logic and science behind watercolor to paint with confidence.

Spoiler alert: watercolor doesn't have a "mind of its own" - it always a logical reason for how it behaves! In these private lessons, we observe and learn how to more smartly work with the ratio between water, pigment, and paper. 

What’s Included in Your Experience

• All supplies: We use high-quality paints and supplies (which really make a difference in watercolor!) You are welcome to bring in your own supplies if you would like to get used to the same set at home and in class. If you aren't sure what to buy yet, this is your chance to experience a variety of paint brands & brushes, and talk story about art supplies.
• Skill Assessment & Goal Setting: We begin with an assessment of your current understanding of the medium & where you'd like to be. Subsequent lessons are tailored to your specific interests and skills. 
• Practical Teaching: Rebecca breaks down the "mystery" of watercolor into a logical explanation that will help you understand why watercolor behaves certain ways. You'll learn to control water ratios, understand color mixing, and how to better use your brush for different nature-inspired subjects. You will also learn things like how to build depth of value and how to fix "mistakes."
• Observational Painting: We focus on realistic painting from life or reference photos. Rebecca can assist you with drawing your subject if need. "Generative" AI and other copies of other artists' work is actively discouraged.

Booking Details

• Currently booking adults & former students only. Booking all teens and adults starting again in January.
• Ages: Adults or kids/teens ages 11–17. For many reasons, I do not teach chilren younger than this.
• Timeframe: 1.5 hours per lesson.
  
• Frequency: Lessons are typically held once per week or once every other week. Busy adults may need longer lengths of time between lessons so they can make the time to practice between lessons.
• Series Options: Packages of 4, 8, or 12 lessons are available. 
• Location: My home studio in Waipahu (mauka from Lowe’s off H1/Exit 7). The exact address is emailed after registration. (Please check your spam folder.)
• Studio Readiness: Students are expected to use materials responsibly, clean up, and follow studio safety rules. Please review our full policies here and read the blog post "How do I know my kid is ready for art class?"
  

Investment

• Pricing: Select your lesson bundle from the drop-down menu.
• Supplies: All supplies are included for use in the studio. To see the best results, students are highly encouraged to have a set of supplies for practice at home. (See recommended supplies)
• Sibling/Friend Discount: Receive 15% off when registering 2 or more students together! (Ages 9+ and adults) The discount applies automatically at checkout.
  

How to Schedule Your Lessons

1. Confirm Availability: Before purchasing, please check the calendar page for mutual availability. Lessons are 1.5 hours. They are typically held weekdays after 1pm and select Saturdays. During summer break, momrning timeslots are also available.
2. Purchase Your Bundle: Once you've found mutual availability, return to this page to purchase your 4, 8, or 12-lesson package.
3. Finalize Details: You will receive a confirmation email with a link to my calendar app to officially lock in your dates, or you may email/call to schedule them. Please check your spam folder for "Rebecca Block" if you do not see a message within a few minutes.
