Watercolor has a reputation for being unpredictable, but there is always a logical reason for how it behaves. In these private lessons, we "think like a scientist" by observing the relationship between water, pigment, and paper. Whether you are a total beginner or looking to improve your technique, these lessons provide a solid foundation in botanical and landscape painting.

What’s Included in Your Experience

• Skill Assessment & Goal Setting: We begin with an assessment of your current understanding of the medium. Subsequent lessons are tailored to your specific interests and areas for improvement.
• The "Hows and Whys" of Paint: Learn to control water ratios, understand color mixing to avoid "mud," and practice specific brush strokes for different nature-inspired subjects.
• Observational Painting: We focus on realistic painting from life or reference photos. You will learn to build values from light to dark and understand how to fix common watercolor mistakes.
• Practical Techniques: We move past the basics to explore glazing, wet-on-wet blending, and dry brush techniques. This helps you understand the mechanics of the materials so you can achieve the specific results you want.

Booking Details

• Ages: Adults or kids/teens ages 9–17.
• Timeframe: 1.5 hours per lesson.
  
• Frequency: Lessons are typically held once per week or once every other week.
• Series Options: Packages of 4, 8, or 12 lessons are available. 
• Location: My home studio in Waipahu (mauka from Lowe’s off H1/Exit 7). The exact address is emailed after registration. (Please check your spam folder.)

• Pricing: Select your lesson bundle from the drop-down menu.
• Supplies: All supplies are included for use in the studio. To see the best results, students are highly encouraged to have a set of supplies for practice at home. (See recommended supplies)
• Sibling/Friend Discount: Receive 15% off when registering 2 or more students together! (Ages 9+ and adults) The discount applies automatically at checkout.
  

How to Schedule Your Lessons

1. Confirm Availability: Before purchasing, please check the calendar page for mutual availability. Lessons are 1.5 hours. (Lessons are typically held weekdays after 1pm and select Saturday afternoons.)
2. Purchase Your Bundle: Once you've confirmed a time slot that works for you, return to this page to purchase your 4, 8, or 12-lesson package.
3. Finalize Details: You will receive a confirmation email with a link to my calendar app to officially lock in your dates, or you may email/call to schedule them. Please check your spam folder for "Rebecca Block" if you do not see a message within a few minutes.
